Chicago’s Pivotal Role in the Fair Trade Movement
Panel:
- Katherine Bissell Cordova, Executive Director, Chicago Fair Trade
- Emily Hobbs, Development Manager, Fair Trade USA
- Anthony Kingsley, Local & Sustainable Produce Lead, US Foods
Fair Trade is a global movement made up of a diverse network of producers, companies, shoppers, advocates, and organizations. From poverty to climate change to struggles with health and safety, people all over the world face incredible challenges simply trying to earn a living. Shopping and supporting Fair Trade means taking a stand for a system that treats everyone with respect.
During our discussion, we will dive into Chicago’s pivotal role in the Fair Trade Movement—it’s the largest Fair Trade city in the U.S.—and how businesses and employees can engage with Fair Trade to support sustainable development through procurement commitments, volunteerism/employee engagement, and partnerships. Our conversation will address how the grassroots efforts in Chicago directly connect with salient global issues such as sustainability, supply chain transparency, and worker’s rights and how your businesses can drive environmental and social impacts and meet CSR goals through procurement decisions.
